International Women’s Day 2021: Women In FinTech

International Women’s Day, first celebrated in 1911, was simply to promote equal rights for women. Sounds fair enough, right? Well, 110 years later and this is still an issue for millions of women around the world.

This year’s theme #ChooseToChallange is to encourage everyone “to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality” as stated by the campaign. With this in mind, our team at Naqoda wanted to focus our attention on Martha Mghendi-Fisher. Not only is Martha Mghendi-Fisher a woman in fin-tech but, she has successfully founded 5 organisations in just two years. Some of these organisations include European Women Payments Network (EWPN), African Women in FinTech & Payments (AWFP) and African Women Speakers where each one is focused on bringing visibility and equality to women, among other things.

Mghendi-Fisher has past experience in fin-tech but in 2018 she decided to combine her expertise and her passion, which is “to bring people together, create impact, help people and change the lives of people while doing things that matter” as said on her website.

With this in mind, our 50/50 team at Naqoda strive to follow Martha’s lead and ensure our values and technology enable change, create impact and promote equal rights.
